We need people – people like those in TB Alert, who are focused and ambitious and care for people at grass roots in the UK, India and Africa. Dr Lucica Ditiu, Executive Secretary of the Stop TB Partnership
The prevalence of TB is far higher in people with a history of prison than in the general population – this is particularly true in Russia and the former Soviet republics.
Whilst TB care and control measures are perhaps easier to implement within detention centres, the health of prisoners may not be considered a priority in resource poor countries. Once detainees are released from jail they are also more at risk of homelessness, which provides additional risks for TB care and control.
