We need people – people like those in TB Alert, who are focused and ambitious and care for people at grass roots in the UK, India and Africa. Dr Lucica Ditiu, Executive Secretary of the Stop TB Partnership
Every day, more than 23,000 people fall ill with TB, and 3,561 people die - despite the fact that TB is curable. Though the world is on track to reverse the incidence of TB by 2015, more funding, research and political commitment to TB is required to meet the target to halve the prevalence of TB by 2015.
Though rates of TB are falling globally, the UK is bucking that trend. In the UK, cases have been rising steadily since 1987, and now hover around 9,000 cases annually.
