A note from Veronica White, TB Alert volunteer Advisor and Research Respiratory Physician, St.Barts Hospital, London
One of the main problems for Aid Agencies in Bangladesh is the very real corruption that exists in the country. This has, not surprisingly, made potential donors very reluctant to give monies to the country, particularly via government bodies. Therefore our support of projects, such as LAMB, are all the more important, especially as we know at first hand that they use the funding wisely.
LAMB's TB programme was one of the best that I saw in Bangladesh. They also have a training program in the hospital for their lay health workers, who tend to go on and work predominately in the community, which is, of course, one of the major aims for TB Alert funding.
I hope that we will be able to support LAMB again this year.
