Other NGO Work in the Burari Area

There is very little other NGO work already happening in the area, making this area a good study for us to be able to asses our impact. There is however three other small projects run by NGO’s that will provide useful contacts to work with.

St Johns Ambulance Health Post Dispensary: Provides general medical advice and medicine for common illnesses to the local population free of cost.

B.P.S Community Care Centre: is a care home for those living with HIV/AIDS. They are currently caring for 6 patients whom they provide food, clothing and accommodation to, while receiving AntiRetroViral drugs (ART’s) from the government hospital. They are supported by DSACS (Delhi State AIDS Control Society) and receive funding from NACO (National AIDS Control Organisation). During our situation analysis we have already made contact with the staff of the community centre, as well as with DSACS who will help us to implement HIV-TB diagnosis in the area.

German Leprosy Relief Agency (GLRA): Run a total of 23 DOT provider centres around Delhi, two of which are present in Burari where they have been working since 2005, one in Nethupara and one in Burari Village. They are currently providing DOTS for 30 patients in the area. However, they do not have microscopy centre there as all of their patents are referred to them from the government testing facility at the RB-TB Hospital which is 15 kilometres away. They have also done very little in the way of raising awareness in the area. Having worked in the area for a number of years they have been useful in providing secondary data on the area. We have also had a meeting with them and they are keen for us to work in the area so as to provide a more comprehensive TB program.
