Awareness sessions in Mulungushi

Mulungushi West is a rural village around 60 kilometres east of Kabwe town where most of the inhabitants are actively involved in subsistence farming.

Here, the Chichetekelo Outreach Partners held two seperate sensitisation sessions in a local School, one for the community and one for the pupils. They covered topics such as TB detection, prevention, treatment and the link between TB and HIV/AIDS. To the villager's suprise, the Outreach Partners were able to speak to them about these issues in their local language, Tonga, which went a long way to helping the villagers feel more comfortable and able to participate in the session.

It was found that many local people were unaware of the differences between TB and HIV, and the Outreach Partners were able to dispel many myths and correct misinformation about the two diseases. The villagers agreed that they found the session very helpful and requested that we return for another sensitization session in the near future.
