The campaign takes place during March and April - around World Stop TB Day (24th March)*  

WHY?
Nutrition is a vital element of getting better for a patient with TB.  It is a curable disease but patients need to build their strength with good food while they take their medicine.  The focus of the campaign will be “Help TB Alert provide a dinner for a TB patient.”  The funds raised will go towards TB Alert’s work in the UK, which raises awareness of TB, and supports patients with information, a helpline, and hardship grants for food, travel, prescription costs and other needs. 


HOW?
A small, colourful table card is placed on each table. The card explains the £1 on the bill idea, and states that during the promotion period, a voluntary £1 will be added by the restaurant to the table's bill at the end of the meal. It also states that the customer may, of course, decline to participate.  
 
There is no cost to the restaurants, or the volunteers. TB Alert provides all the table cards, and the administrative burden is very small. The scheme is a very cost efficient way for restaurants to fulfil their social and community responsibility. The £1 donation is added to the bill after the service charge and VAT, so it does not affect the restaurant's VAT returns.

Evidence from similar campaigns show that fewer than 1% of customers decline to participate, and some even request that more than £1 be added to the bill! Most customers are very happy to "give a little something back" after enjoying a fabulous meal.  

RESTAURANTS NEEDED
If you own or manage a restaurant anywhere in the UK, we would be delighted to have you on board. It costs you nothing to take part, we provide all the materials and it is an excellent way to get involved with a good cause and show your customers you care. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
We need your help to recruit restaurants in Brighton, and more around the country to raise money for TB Alert through our “£1 on the bill campaign”. 

We have a volunteer working with us throughout December to March to recruit at least 25 restaurants here – we would like YOU to find at least one restaurant (maybe two or three?) in your home town to take part.

Remember you are not asking for money (it costs the restaurants nothing to take part), and all the restaurants taking part in the pilot in 2007 were delighted with the response from their customers and to be able to raise so much money for TB Alert so easily.
