Twenty years ago a small group of people met in London to discuss the UK’s response to the WHO having declared TB a global emergency. They concluded there was a need to establish a charity dedicated solely to advocating for action in tackling TB and to implementing practical programmes among the communities most affected by TB. And so, on World TB Day 1999, TB Alert was born.
One member of that group was Paul Sommerfeld, who became TB Alert’s Chair, a role he has held to this day. Paul now feels it is time to hand over the reins and has announced he will step down next year.
Our mission, to increase access to effective TB treatment for all, remains as important as ever, but today TB Alert faces new challenges and opportunities as we seek to reduce our reliance on grant-funding and increase our self-reliance by acting as a technical advisory agency, both in the UK and overseas.
The Board of Trustees is therefore looking for a dynamic individual, who shares a commitment to our mission, to bring a fresh perspective to TB Alert; a person with the skills and experience to help us make a significant step change in our impact, while remaining a strong and healthy organisation. Could you be that person or do you know someone who might be ready to take up the challenge? Please download this description of the role and the person we are looking for.
