New study finds 20 year plus benefit from BCG in adolescence

New research from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and National Institute of Health research finds that the BCG offers more protection against TB than previously thought – offering over 20 years’ protection when given to adolescent children in the UK.

Though the protection offered by the BCG varies by geographic region, according to how much naturally mycobacteria there is in the environment, this study opens the door for a re-evaluation of how the BCG is used worldwide to help prevent TB.
