Information and awareness

Charity worker with a homeless TB patientAt TB Alert, we know that information and awareness are key to tackling TB. That’s why our work in the UK focuses on providing people with accessible information on TB and raising awareness, among both communities at risk of the illness and healthcare staff.

The Truth About TB

The Truth About TB is our website which provides a range of information and resources for people with questions about TB. You can find out your risk of catching TB, what the symptoms are, what to do if you think you might have TB, and what treatment involves.

Information service

We offer general advice and support on TB through our HealthUnlocked forum.

If you need specific medical advice, please speak to your GP, TB Nurse or local TB service. You can find your local TB Service contact details through the Public Health England website. You may also wish to go to NHS Choices or call NHS 111 by dialling 111 from landline or mobile free of charge. If you are worried that you have symptoms that could be TB or you are being treated for TB and are concerned about side effects – please seek medical advice as soon as possible.

Information and training for health professionals

Because the symptoms of TB can be similar to those of many other conditions, the illness can often be misdiagnosed, delaying treatment and increasing the risk of transmission. That’s why we are also working to raise awareness of TB among primary care staff, and have created online training and resources to help them better understand TB.
